Objections to Training
Why I haven’t started using a Personal Trainer:
Objection: Money: I can’t afford to use a personal trainer.
Reality: Think about how much money you spend on fast food, candy, soda, alcohol, coffee, or tobacco products. If we just look at one, say fast food, and assume that maybe you spend at least $5 a day on either fast food or snacks each day. If that is only during the standard work week (5 days), then that is $25 a week, $100 a month, and $1300 a year (52 weeks). That doesn’t include money you may spend on going out to a “nice” dinner or a movie. How much is your body worth to you? If it’s weight loss you are trying to achieve, won’t you give up fast food, candy, and soda anyway?
Objection: Time: I don’t have enough time to work with a personal trainer.
Reality: We have trainers available early mornings and late nights. If you work
with a personal trainer, then you will be performing high-
Objection: The workouts look too hard.
Reality: They are hard! If it were easy, everyone would be in shape! Don’t give up before you give yourself a chance at success.
Objections: My husband/wife/significant other doesn’t want me to do it.
Reality: If your significant other objects to you using a personal trainer it may
only be because he/she doesn’t see the value in it. Invite him/her in to do a first-
Objections: Let me try working out on my own for now and if I need help, I will let you know.
Reality: 60% of people that join a health club stop using the facility after ONE month. That number increases to over 80% after 6 months. The bottom line is that by the time you realize you can’t do it on your own or have not seen the results you anticipated on seeing, it is too late. You will be burnt out or will have already reprioritized your schedule to not include working out. In school, you can’t take a test on something you never learned. At work, you cannot perform your job until you are trained. Working out with fitness goals in mind is no different. Get help at the start and be successful in the end.
Objections: I’m not in shape enough to do those types of workouts with a personal trainer.
Reality: This translates to “I have to get in shape before I get into shape.” Don’t make this mistake. It is better to work hard and get results at the beginning than to see minimal, if any results for the first few months. Time is important, so don’t waste it!
